Germany overcomes Denmark to reach Euro 2024 quarterfinals

Germany reached the quarterfinals of the UEFA European Championship by beating Denmark by two goals without reply on Saturday in Dortmund.

Kai Haverts (53rd from the penalty spot) and Djamel Musiala (68th) scored in the second half.

The match was halted in the 35th minute amid heavy rain, high winds, thunder and lightning, and resumed after a pause of about half an hour after the rain subsided.

Denmark opened the scoring in the 47th minute through Joachim Andersen, but the goal was disallowed after the VAR was consulted for offside.

Soon after, Andersen caused the referee to award a penalty against his country after the ball touched his hand inside the area, and Havertz translated the kick into a goal in the 53rd minute.

Musiala ended Denmark's hopes of a comeback by scoring the second goal after he broke away from goalkeeper Gaspar Schmeichel and hit the ball to his left into the back of the net.

Three-time winners Germany will meet the winner of Sunday's match between Spain and Georgia in the quarterfinals.
