Apple has removed some artificial intelligence (AI) apps from its App Store, due to the fact that they can generate nude images of a sexual nature.

Generative AI's ability to create images based on user commands has become a very useful tool in photography and design, however, it can be misused to create fake or sexualized images.

According to press reports, Apple has been made aware of a number of AI-powered photo creation apps in the App Store that are advertised as being able to "create nude photos without consent."

According to 404 Media, the developers of these apps relied on Instagram ads to promote abusive apps that claimed they could "undress girls for free," and these ads contained links that took users to the apps' pages in the App Store.

3 apps

The site reported that Apple did not initially respond to a request for comment, but responded immediately after the press report was published to request more information, and when the company obtained the links to the ads and the specific app store pages, the company began removing the apps from its store.

Apple removed three apps from the App Store immediately after they were reported, which means that the company itself could not find the apps that violated its policy, and that those apps passed the review process and their developers were not prevented from publishing them to users.
