PS5 update lets you invite multiplayer games via your smartphone app

Updates PS5

It works through a shareable link, which means you don't need people to be on your friends list to enjoy it.

Sony innovation: invitations to games just got easier

Sony, a big name in the world of video games, recently unveiled an attractive feature that will soon be integrated into the PlayStation 5. The main aim of this new offering is to simplify the setup of multiplayer games. From now on, inviting someone to join a game will be easier than ever.

An effective tool for an enhanced gaming experience

Once up and running, this innovative tool lets you invite people to join your game, even when they're not near a console or using the PlayStation app. The system can generate a link, via the app, which can be shared anywhere online. "As soon as the recipient clicks on the link, he or she will be able to immediately join a multiplayer session," he assures us. With this new tool, you won't even need to be friends on the platform.

A few updates before optimal use

However, there are several points worth noting. This feature will only be available later in the year, and only for PS5 games. Sony also warns that some titles may require an update to get everything working optimally. It's also important to remember that most PS5 games require a PlayStation Plus subscription to use multiplayer, and the rates for these subscriptions have increased over the past year.

In an increasingly innovative approach, Sony is also developing a personalized live link for multiplayer invitations on Discord. Thanks to this function, the status of a multiplayer session is automatically updated, so you don't end up alone in an empty gaming room.

As a final note, Sony is also working on a tool to share its PlayStation Network profile on any messaging or social application simply by generating a link via the PlayStation app, which is sure to be another major advance for the platform later this year.
